There are 3 types of schools in New Zealand which are :

State schools or Public schools, owned and funded by the New Zealand government, are
free to New Zealand citizens and permanent residents with the age not exceeding 19
years old. However, parents must pay for uniforms, stationery, examination fees, and other
curriculum-related costs themselves.

Around 10% of the nationwide students are enrolled in this type of
school. Many of the schools are managed by organizations or religious
communities, for example, Catholic, Steiner, or Montessori.

Only 5% of students in New Zealand attend private schools. The majority
of this school type are boarding schools, either boy-only, girl-only, or
co-education school.
