Humble Address
Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand
On the Auspicious Occasion of Their Majesties the King and Queen Presiding Over the Royal
Inauguration of Midfield Satellite 1 and the Third Runway at Suvarnabhumi Airport
May it please Your Majesties,
I, Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, on behalf of the Royal Thai Government,
the Thai people, and all those present here in humble attendance, express my deepest gratitude for the boundless and
immeasurable Royal Grace bestowed upon us on this most auspicious occasion, as Your Majesties graciously preside over
the Royal Inauguration of Midfield Satellite 1 (SAT-1) and the Third Runway at Suvarnabhumi Airport, operated by Airports of
Thailand Public Company Limited.
With Your Majesties’ gracious permission, I respectfully present a brief report on the development of these significant
national projects.
Suvarnabhumi Airport, situated in Bang Phli District, Samut Prakan Province, spans approximately 20,000 rai. The
project was initiated by the Government in 1960, and the airport officially commenced operations in September 2006. Since
its opening, Suvarnabhumi Airport has experienced continual growth in both passenger numbers and air traffic. In response,
on 24 August 2010, the Cabinet approved the Suvarnabhumi Airport Development Project, to be implemented during Fiscal
Years 2011–2017, with the objective of increasing the airport’s capacity from 45 million to 60 million passengers annually and
alleviating congestion.
Midfield Satellite 1 (SAT-1), a four-story terminal building covering approximately 216,000 square metres, features 28
contact gates. The project reached completion and commenced official operations in September 2023. In 2024, SAT-1 was
honoured with the prestigious Prix Versailles award for “World’s Most Beautiful Airport” in recognition of its outstanding
architectural design. The terminal reflects the refined beauty of Thai identity and cultural heritage, harmoniously blended
with contemporary architecture. This accolade stands as a source of national pride for the Thai people.
To further accommodate the growing volume of air traffic, the Government undertook the construction of the Third
Runway, designed to increase flight handling capacity from 68 to 94 flights per hour—equivalent to an average of 800–1,000
flights per day. The Third Runway was completed and officially commenced operations on 3 October 2024. This critical
development strengthens Thailand’s aviation infrastructure and reaffirms the Government’s commitment, through the
Ministry of Transport and Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited, to establishing Suvarnabhumi Airport as a leading
regional aviation hub.
Now that the most auspicious moment has arrived, I humbly seek Your Majesties’ gracious permission to formally
inaugurate Midfield Satellite 1 and the Third Runway at Suvarnabhumi Airport, in honour of Your Majesties’ glory and in
celebration of the Royal Occasion of His Majesty the King’s Sixth Cycle Birthday Anniversary on 28 July 2024.
With Your Majesties’ gracious permission, I respectfully invite Mr. Kerati Kijmanawat, President of Airports of Thailand
Public Company Limited, to humbly present key individuals whose dedication and contributions ensured the success of this
national endeavour, to receive royal commemorative souvenirs in order.
Thereafter, I respectfully seek Your Majesties’ gracious permission to invite:
• Mr. Chayatan Phromsorn, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, to present commemorative gifts;
• Mr. Apirat Chaiwongnoi, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited, to present
commemorative gifts to Her Majesty the Queen;
• Mr. Suriya Jungrungreangkit, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, to present a monetary offering on
behalf of Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited;
• Mr. Kerati Kijmanawat, President of Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited, to respectfully present the
foundation stone for Their Majesties to graciously inscribe their Royal Signatures.
With humble reverence, I further seek Your Majesties’ permission to invite Your Majesties to observe the exhibition
entitled “Transport Unity Leading Thailand as an Aviation Hub.”
Finally, I respectfully seek royal permission for myself, along with executives of the Ministry of Transport and Airports
of Thailand Public Company Limited, to join in a commemorative photograph as a lasting blessing and testament to this
historic occasion.
May it please Your Majesties.
