MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR GENERAL

                OF THE CITY PLANNING AND URBAN
                DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT

                MR. ASA THONGTHAMMACHART




                In Fiscal Year 2025, the City Planning and Urban Development Department continued   “DIRECTOR GENERAL,
                to advance its mission in urban planning and development with the aim of guiding
                Bangkok’s growth in a balanced, inclusive, and sustainable manner. Our efforts remain   CITY PLANNING AND
                firmly focused on enhancing the quality of life and well-being of the city’s residents
                across all dimensions.                                                             URBAN DEVELOPMENT

                Our achievements over the past year include significant progress on the Draft Bangkok   DEPARTMENT
                                    th
                Comprehensive Plan (4  Revision), the revitalization of the historic urban cores in
                both Phra Nakhon and Thon Buri sides of the city, and the strategic development of   -ASA
                sub-centers  in  suburban  districts  such  as  Lat  Krabang  and  Bang  Khun  Thian.
                Furthermore, we have harnessed the power of big data, innovation, and Geographic   THONGTHAMMACHART”
                Information Systems (GIS) to bolster policy-level decision-making, ensuring our urban
                strategies are data-driven and responsive to the evolving needs of the public.

                Central to our success is a commitment to participatory planning. By engaging
                stakeholders across the public, private, and civil society sectors, we ensure that our
                efforts in urban conservation, revitalization, and development are inclusive. This
                collaborative spirit fosters a sense of collective ownership, which is vital for driving
                Bangkok’s long-term stability and resilience.
                As a megacity, Bangkok today faces complex challenges—from demographic shifts and
                economic volatility to environmental pressures and emerging technological threats.
                Future urban planning must be both visionary and adaptive, strengthening the links
                between people, places, and opportunities to support urban living for generations to
                come.

                As Director General, I am committed to strengthening the organization by fostering
                a  culture  of  continuous  learning,  integrated  collaboration,  and  data-driven
                decision-making. At the same time, we remain dedicated to enhancing the capacity of
                our personnel at all levels to effectively address emerging challenges. I am confident
                that through shared knowledge, commitment, and collective effort, we will continue to
                advance urban planning and development with stability and purpose. Together, we will
                realize our vision of a charming, livable metropolis—a city of opportunity for everyone.
