            CITY                   The name Khon Kaen


            FAST                   most likely originated from the word
                                   “Kham  Kaen,”  which  is  said  to  be  a
                                   dead  tamarind  stump  that  magically
            FACTS                  sprouted. A pagoda, Phra That Kham
                                   Kaen, was raised atop it and is now a
                                   revered place of prayer for the province.


           Khon Kaen’s motto
       “Land of Kham Kaen shrine, sound of the Isan reed flute and Khoon flowers, Thai
       silk center, binding hearts in friendship; travel to the big city of Khon Kaen, see
       Sirindhorn’s Dinosaur and visit the home of the first gold medal in Olympic boxing.”

           Khon Kaen’s MICE vision
       is to become one of the top 10 MICE city destinations in ASEAN.



           Phu Wiang District             Thoranin cotton cloth
       is home to a large number of dinosaur   dyed using over 130 million years old
       fossil  excavations;  efforts  have  been   ancient sandstone from Khok Phu Ta Ka
