Background

In 2019, Thailand takes up the Chairmanship of ASEAN. ASEAN-BAC has chosen “Empowering
ASEAN 4.0” as the theme for Thailand’s 2019 ASEAN Chairmanship. The theme covers four pillars:
digital infrastructure, digital connectivity, support to MSMEs, and human resources development;
with the latter serving as flagship pillar.
As one of its core activities in the human resource development pillar, ASEAN-BAC with the
support of the German Government’s RECOTVET programme, is organizing a 1-day symposium,
titled “Empowering ASEAN 4.0: Implications of Industry 4.0 for Skills Development Strategies of
Business and Industry”, for the ASEAN business community on the importance of reskilling and
upskilling the region’s workforce to empower ASEAN 4.0. The symposium will be organized on 20
March 2019 in Bangkok, Thailand, accommodating a maximum of 100 participants, mainly from
business organisations and companies from all ASEAN Member States.
