Banking (JSCCIB)

On behalf of the Joint Standing Committee on Commerce, Industry and Banking
(JSCCIB), I wish to express my sincere congratulations to Chairman and the committee of
ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC) for the excellent work that they have done
to support ASEAN’s business community. I would also like to congratulate the achievement
of events especially on ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (ABIS) 2019, and ASEAN
Business Awards (ABA) 2019 which are held during the year.
These two significant events are the conclusion of year-long activities as Thailand is the
Chair of ASEAN. The ABIS will generate greater awareness on the impact of the emergence of
the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) and the ABA will encourage and recognize outstanding
ASEAN enterprises in playing roles of building ASEAN economic growth and prosperity.
Business community in 2019 is facing many uncertainties and challenges from the
international trade situation, the climate change and the disruptive technologies of the 4IR.
Thus, we will have to prepare ourselves to encounter, overcome and find opportunities in this
situation. The “Empowering ASEAN 4.0” is the scheme to respond at the right time.
The constructive collaboration between ASEAN-BAC Thailand, Thai private sector
and ASEAN business community on digital infrastructure, digital connectivity, and the
development of human resources and MSMEs will bring benefits to all stakeholders, especially
on labor forces and micro enterprises in preparing themselves to face the challenges from
4IR.
Furthermore, the business issues and recommendations from ASEAN-BAC which
reflect the needs of private sector will be delivered to ASEAN Economic Ministers and ASEAN
Leaders. This will urge the government to create a business environment that will inclusively
foster sustainable development within ASEAN.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish ASEAN-BAC a very successful year ahead.
