Page 11 - Experience Thailand and More
P. 11
While the villagers have always grown rice, they realized they needed
a second income to survive. So, now, visitors are treated to a view of
towering swaying coconut palms that provide villagers with a variety of
products, not just sweet young coconuts to quench one’s thirst after a bike
ride through the shaded groves.
The villagers have also come up with an innovative, natural method to
protect their coconut trees, releasing parasitic wasps, Bracon Herbetors
that lay eggs in insect larvae, killing them without the need of harmful
pesticides.
Visitors can also learn traditional Thai paper cutting and Guasa, a 5000-
year-old healing treatment brought from China. The instruments applied
are produced from animal bones in all shapes and sizes to scrape and
massage every part of the body.
Many try their hand at making Thai desserts, like sweet toffee and crispy
Thon Pub, rolled into the shape of a Flower bouquet. Before this, though,
you might want to try one of the restaurants serving delicious local cuisine,
seafood and, of course, coconut curries.
