As their vision, “Caring for the Past, Crafting for the Future,” avows,
Artisan D’Angkor is working to preserve traditional Cambodian
artistry by teaching young men and women from Siem Reap’s rural
communities the skills to produce very beautiful, elaborate and
delicate stone and wood carvings, silk fabric, fashion and paintings,
ceramics, jewelry, gilding, lacquer ware and silver plating.
Started as an education project, this very successful social enterprise
offers 9-month apprenticeships under the tutelage of expert,
former graduates who you can watch as they mentor their trainees
recreating the Angkor heritage in the various workshops open to
visitors. There is also a wonderful gift shop with an impressive
display of their fabrics and wares sold at very reasonable prices.
