The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT): A Historical Overview
The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) was officially established on 1 October
2015 as a state agency under the Ministry of Transport. Its creation marked a significant
restructuring of Thailand’s civil aviation oversight system, aimed at enhancing regulatory
effectiveness and aligning with international aviation standards. The new framework
grants CAAT increased operational autonomy, flexible recruitment capabilities, and
improved agility in addressing aviation-related challenges efficiently and sustainably.

CAAT is entrusted with the regulation and supervision of civil aviation entities throughout
the travel process. Its responsibilities include ensuring compliance with national laws,
international aviation regulations, and the standards and recommended practices issued
by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
