Set at the foot of Governor’s Hill, upon arrival at the eastern
gate, it’s the belfry tower that captures most visitors’ attention
and, if lucky, you’ll hear the bell, cast in 1926, chime with
glorious fervor. In 1902, a small chapel originally stood here. It
was followed by this sanctuary, initially the regimental Anglican
church. At the western end, the foundation stone imprinted with
the date 1912 is still clearly visible. Consecrated in 1914, it has
continued to serve the faithful to this present day. Restored and
redecorated in 2005, the church has retained its colonial charm
with two priceless stained glass windows gazing serenely over
A second important landmark is the Purcell Clock Tower set at a fork in the
worshipers who sit on old, well-polished wooden pews while
main road at the heart of the city. Erected in 1936, this gift of Queen Victoria
