Page 3 - A Life Well-Lived Is a Beautiful Memory
P. 3
Preface
On the first day of March 2020, amid the rising tide of the COVID-19 pandemic,
Bhanupong texted me Cicero’s poignant quote: “The life of the dead is placed in the
memory of the living.” Perhaps the weight of that uncertain time led him to reflect on
these words, or maybe he found solace in their enduring truth. It was unthinkable then
that in just three short years Bhanupong would be gone, leaving behind a tapestry of
memories woven into the hearts of those who loved him. As we commemorate the
first anniversary of Bhanupong’s passing, we share these memories in the following
pages of this book.
Once again, we remember the little boy, Tik, who was the light of his family
and grew up to be their pride and joy with his remarkable professional achievements.
He remained a loving brother, uncle, nephew, and cousin throughout the years. Then,
there is Bhanu, the devoted husband, and Poh Tik, a hero to his son, who filled his
home with laughter and unwavering love.
To his Thai colleagues and friends, he was always “Tik,” and “Bhanupong”
or “Bhanu,” to his friends from other countries. To them, he brought warmth and
understated intelligence to every interaction. His kindness was as radiant as his smile,
his laughter as infectious as his genuine interest in others. And to his students, he was
Ajarn Bhanupong, the supportive teacher and mentor who celebrated their successes
as his own, inspiring them to become the best versions of themselves.
No matter the name, one thing remains constant: the indelible mark he left on
our lives. Each story in this book is a brushstroke, painting a portrait of a man whose
character shone through in every aspect of his being. The empathy in his eyes, the
humor that lit up his smile, the intelligence that danced on his lips – all drawn together
with an inherent humility and selflessness that touched each of us in unique ways.
This book is more than just a collection of memories. It is a testament to our love
and admiration for Bhanupong. It is a living reminder of the amazing person he was,
while the echo of his life continues to resonate within us all.
