I was informed by Dr. Naris Chaiyasoot that Mrs. Divina Nidhiprabha, the wife of
Bhanupong, was preparing to put together a book of remembrance for Bhanupong’s first death
anniversary. She asked his friends, colleagues, and former students to share their personal stories
about him for the book.
I, Pirom Chantaworn, am a senior who studied Economics many years apart from Bhanupong.
I entered Thammasat in 1963, and Bhanupong entered in 1971. However, I completed my Ph.D.
in 1985, a year after Bhanupong, who graduated in 1984.
After completing my bachelor’s degree, I became an assistant lecturer in 1968, helping
Prof. Dr. Puey Ungphakorn, the Dean of the Faculty of Economics at that time, with the Graduate
Diploma Program in 1969, called the Volunteer Graduate Program. I received a scholarship to study
at the University of the Philippines from 1972 to 1975, hence, I did not get to know Bhanupong
closely. Upon my return, I supported and promoted community activities as a representative of
the faculty and various academic levels, which was already a tradition and example of Thammasat
University.
As a lecturer at Thammasat University, I was elected to the University Council of Thammasat
University three times, I have been aware and supportive of the university administration and
activities. I later came to know Dr. Naris who is my junior. He completed his Ph.D. in 1983
and came back to Thammasat to teach at the Faculty of Economics. He was also involved in
administrative activities at the university.
