Sakon Varanyuwatana started his academic career as a Lecturer at the Faculty of Economics,
Thammasat University in 1987 after obtaining a Ph.D. in Economics from Syracuse University,
USA. He became a full professor in 2012. While working at the university, he served as both a
professor in the field of monetary economics and as an administrator in various positions within
the Faculty of Economics and university management. He was appointed Dean of the Faculty of
Economics from 2014 to 2017. In addition to his duties at Thammasat University, he was also a
consultant for academic institutions and external organizations.
