WHAT TO DO Upon entering the 9-sided base, you’ll discover a first floor dedicated to
Art and Culture with displays of antique tools and artistry. The second
floor presents History and Culture with exhibits showcasing the eight
ethnic groups that populate the province. Floors three through five let
AND SEE visitors see how the tower was built. There are also a set of gongs on the
fifth floor that visitors can ring to call for the blessings of spirits. On the
sixth floor, when not mesmerized by the spectacular views through the
th
glass enclosures, there are artifacts to see, and then the 7 floor, has a
collection of seven Buddha images that represent each day of the week
surrounding Phra Buddhanavamingmongkol, a much larger Buddha
image said to be solid good, at the center of the dome.
Hor Kaew Mukdahan
Si Bunrueang Mueang, Mukdahan
Open daily from 8.00 a.m. – 6.00 p.m.
Gazing south from the Second Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge is another
landmark rising above the city skyline, the Hor Kaew, or Glass Tower.
Standing 65 meters in height, it was built to commemorate the 50th
anniversary of the late King Bumiphol Adulyadej’s ascension to the
throne in 1996. In addition to its spectacular 360-degree panorama
of the Mekong River valley stretching east into the Lao PDR and
west toward the Thai interior where you will be travelling next, the
tower is a very interesting museum.
