Second Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge
Bangsai Yai, Muang, Mukdahan
Mukdahan seemed more like a sleepy riverside backwater town until 2006,
when the Second Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge was opened. 1600 meters, or
a mile long, and built at a cost of USD 70 million, shipments are now carried
by truck across the Mekong River, rather than on small boats, between
Mukdhan and the Lao PDR city of Suvannakhet, and Vietnam’s ancient
capital of Hue and the port of De Nang, which is why the Indochina Market
has boomed, selling products not just from these countries but also Russia,
China and beyond.
