WHAT TO DO The shops carry virtually everything, clothing, tools, food and anything to

serve daily needs. There are also a few silver and gold shops and some
that cater to tourists with OTOP products and souvenirs. The shops can
AND SEE be crammed full, making it so hard to imagine how they find anything in
the dark and dingy confines within, but they do. There are also some great
eateries and stalls serving delicious, mouthwatering I-san dishes with
khao niew, sticky rice. Some of these spots become even more livelier
and fun as night descends and the spicy delicacies are accompanied
with cold beer or local whiskey and coke over ice.

         Indocchina Market
         Si Bunrueang Mueang Mukdahan Mukdahan
         Open daily from 8.00 a.m. – 6.00 p.m.

Running south along the riverfront from the Mukdahan Provincial
Hall, this is a market that caters to locals or visiting Thais first, then,
maybe tourists. But this can make it more interesting if you want to
gain added insight into local life. Remember, it is a border market,
or economic zone, to be more formal. Shops line the riverfront lane
on both sides of the immigration office and old ferry terminal where
small ferries still tie up between carrying Thai and Lao people back
and forth between the two countries, some claiming citizenship
of both. So, the market is old, though much more lively since the
         bridge opened.
