WHAT TO DO                                                                Less visited and reconstructed, the ruins do cater to visitors cycling between

                                                                                   Some of the more impressive sites include Wat Chang Lom with its distinctive

                                                                                   and Wat Nang Phaya, a temple built during the reign of Ayuttaha after it had
                                                                                   replaced Sukhothai as the Thai capital in the sixteenth century and taken Si
                                                                                   Sachanalai from the Lanna kingdom to the north.

         Approximately 55 kilometers north of Sukhothai on the east bank of
         the Yom River and guarded by two hills is Si Sachanalai Historical
         Park, the second city of the Sukhothai kingdom. As you cross the
         suspension bridge to enter the town, you’ll be greeted by an even
         older Khmer-style prang at Wat Phra Si Rattana, a remnant from
         when the city was known as Chaliang and served as a Khmer
         outpost and trading hub between the Chinese and Khmer back in
         the 11th century. As the sister city of Sukhothai, it served as the
         residence for the crown prince.
