         Magnificent Stupa
         Mueang Kao, Muang, Khon Kaen
         Open daily from 8.00 a.m. - 5.00 p.m.

Khon Kaen has a number of stunning lakes enhancing the city
environment. One of the more picturesque is Bueng Phra Mahathat
Kaen Nakhon. While along one bank stands a statue of the city
founder, Chao Phia Mueang Pan, at the southern end of the lake
you can see the shimmering reflection of the magnificent, nine-
story stupa, or chedi, at the heart of this temple known by locals
as Wat Nong Wang. As one approaches, the intricate carvings
that decorate the exteriors at each of the floors come into focus,
presenting different incarnations of the Buddha together with 16
         Brahman deities.
