                                                                                   Another attraction that makes its home on the banks of the Bueng Phra
                                                                                   Mahathat Kaen Nakhon  is the Khon Kaen Museum. Hong Moon Mung, in
                                                                                   the northeastern, Thai-I-san dialect, means Hall of Treasures, and this is
                                                                                   what you will certainly discover here. The exhibits, divided into five zones,
                                                                                   date back to the Jurassic period and prehistoric times, with pottery from
                                                                                   the Ban Chiang era. There is also an intricately carved Bai Sema, temple
                                                                                   boundary marker depicting Princess Pimpa cleaning the feet of the Buddha
                                                                                   that dates backs to the Mon Dvaravati Kingdom when Buddhism was first
                                                                                   introduced to Thailand during the sixth to eleventh century. Other displays
                                                                                   present the history, heritage and life then and now of Khon Kaen through
                                                                                   absorbing multimedia displays, dioramas of household and village life and
                                                                                   wax figures performing traditional chores and ceremonies in the clothing,
                                                                                   or costumes, of their ethnic roots. It’s a great introduction to Khon Kaen
                                                                                   and I-san culture.
