Over twenty years ago, I met Divina Nidhiprabha while working at the Philippine Ladies
Group Foundation. Unbeknownst to me, she was married to Ajarn Bhanuphong Nidhiprabha,
or Khun Tik as he was affectionately called. Our meetings mainly focused on our community
service, a bond shared among Filipinas married to Thai nationals.
One fateful day, Divina was absent due to a stroke. As concerned friends, we rushed to her
side at the Bangkok Nursing Home. Unsure of how to reach Khun Tik, who was away in Japan,
we kept vigil by her bedside. Thankfully, we were able to contact him, and I broke the news in
Thai. This conversation became the foundation of our friendship.
Khun Tik’s dedication to Divina’s recovery was unwavering. He tirelessly supported her
for years, helping her regain her strength and independence. We witnessed Divina’s resilience as
she learned to walk again, traveled solo, and resumed her work from home. Her spirit truly shone
through her disability.
Khun Tik’s kindness extended beyond his family. During the pandemic, he generously
offered financial assistance to Filipinos in need and to our dear friend Mrs. Panchamyong during
her fight against cancer. These acts were testaments to his compassion and gratitude.
Last year, we were saddened by the news of Khun Tik’s battle with pancreatic cancer. Divina,
by his side throughout this ordeal, showered him with love and care. As neighbors in Thonglor,
I often offered Filipino dishes to ease their burden.
