In total, seven villages form the Prasae Community that was first
established hundreds of years ago by Chong refugees escaping their
Vietnamese and Khmer conquerors. After crossing the bridge adjacent
to the Prince of Chumphon Shrine paying homage to the founder of the
modern Royal Thai Navy, the riverfront promenade and intermingling
lanes lead to cozy homestays and cottage industries producing and
selling shrimp paste, fish sauce, crispy fish and local delicacies, herbal
teas and inhalants as well as fashion and souvenirs. Many visitors try
their hand at one of the crafts that interest them, especially making dolls
from dough.
