dates back over three centuries,
when the Chanthaburi River and its
tributaries formed a vital network
for trade. Then, you would have
found a bustling commercial center
with Thai farmers bargaining with
Chinese merchants, Siamese or
French troops having a drink or
meal as well as Shan miners, Khmer
sailors and Vietnamese coolies.
