At the end of the riverfront walk and mouth of the Prasae River is the
HTMS Luang Prasae 412 Memorial. After serving the Kingdom for over
five decades beginning with a mission to provide assistance to South
Korea during that war, the original battleship participated in many other
operations that took their toll. Thus, it was replaced by this, the second
frigate given the same name, which continued to serve until it was finally
decommissioned and brought to Rayong to serve as a memorial to its
proud history and the Royal Thai Navy. The ship seems mammoth, yet
is small compared to many of the battleships today. With a crew of 216
sailors and its arsenal of weaponry, it was a formidable protector and
adversary. Just across the river, which can be reached by the Prasae
Bridge, is a picturesque park perfect for a picnic in the shade of the sala,
pavilion, or under the pines fringing the beach.
