Luang Rajamaitri must have enjoyed a very comfortable life in his
Chanthaboon riverside home. It’s not hard to imagine when visiting
this historic inn and museum that was recognized in 2015 by
UNESCO as “an innovative new social enterprise model of urban
heritage conservation”. Built 150-years ago, the restoration becomes
even more impressive after viewing a photograph showing how
dilapidated it had become before the restoration began. The street-
front lounge offers other photographs and displays providing visitors
with insight into this man’s glorious past. Just think, all the rubber
plantations you drove through from Chonburi can be attributed to
Luang Rajamaitri, who imported the first.
