WHAT TO DO The inn offers ten delightful rooms; the two on the ground floor are the
most spacious with their four-poster beds. Upstairs the units are cozier
with their small sitting rooms and sleeping lofts. The floors are the
AND SEE original wide teak planks. The ceilings are high with hanging blown glass
lamps providing light at night, and each room has its own unique antique
furnishings and photographs adorning the walls, as well as a balcony
over either the river or Sukhapiban Road. There is also a spiral staircase
that can lead visitors higher for a panoramic view of the river and the
surroundings. If you don’t want to climb, the wide riverfront veranda can
be a tranquil spot to look out and relax.

Luang Rajamaitri must have enjoyed a very comfortable life in his
Chanthaboon riverside home. It’s not hard to imagine when visiting
this historic inn and museum that was recognized in 2015 by
UNESCO as “an innovative new social enterprise model of urban
heritage conservation”. Built 150-years ago, the restoration becomes
even more impressive after viewing a photograph showing how
dilapidated it had become before the restoration began. The street-
front lounge offers other photographs and displays providing visitors
with insight into this man’s glorious past. Just think, all the rubber
plantations you drove through from Chonburi can be attributed to
Luang Rajamaitri, who imported the first.
