Historic sites and monuments in Bangkok constitute invaluable
historical assets that reflect significant individuals and events, while
also serving as important learning resources for the residents and
visitors. The preservation and maintenance of these historic sites
therefore go beyond physical upkeep; it is the protection of cultural
heritage in order to sustain urban identity, historical value, and a
shared sense of pride within society.
The City Planning and Urban Development Department is tasked
with the oversight and maintenance of 39 historic sites, the
cleanliness and aesthetic maintenance of 11 monuments, and
the care of an additional two historic sites located within the
contiguous areas of Bangkok’s inner city. These responsibilities
encompass cleaning, condition inspection, protection and
safeguarding, security measures, as well as repair and restoration in
accordance with established conservation principles. Such missions
play a vital role in preserving the value and dignity of the city’s
heritage for future generations to take pride in.
