Thon Buri Old Town is rich in historical significance, cultural heritage, and traditional ways of life. The area
is home to ancient religious sites, heritage tourism attractions, and distinctive commercial districts that
collectively reflect its unique character. Currently, however, urban expansion, infrastructure development, and
tourism-related businesses have stimulated vibrant economic activities throughout the day and night. At the
same time, these dynamics have generated various impacts, including traffic congestion, encroachment upon
rivers and canals, environmental pollution, and insufficiency public spaces. In response, the City Planning
and Urban Development Department has implemented the “Urban Renewal and Revitalization Project
to Enhance Land-Use Potential and Promote District-Level Economic Development in Thon Buri Old
Town,” with the objective of preserving the identity of the old town while promoting economic vitality and
improving the quality of life of residents.
